First Impressions on Mark Ingram

Exciting initial report on Mark Ingrams first practises alternating with Pierre. That sucker punch could be great. Throw in Sproles and Ivory and you've just got versitility in every way.

Still a shame to hear Lynell Hamilton has been cut. He was really unlucky to lose his shot last year with the ACL. A real team player and someone coach Payton loved.

Let's hope he gets picked up and given the shot he deserves. Should he not then I'm sure we'll sign him up come mid season.

Saints 1st Win In The Superdome Remembered Plus Meachem & Hamilton Join The Circus

Do you remember those halcyon days when the Saints were total garbage and couldn't string a scoring drive together if Sugar Ray Robinson threatened to beat every last one of them to a pulp?

Yeah well for some it doesn't feel so long ago so here's a nice reminisce on the first time the Saints won in the Superdome to begin their slow ascent to greatness.
Arhchie Manning joy!

And here's a vid of Robert Meachem and Lynell Hamilton having some fun if not quite a career change.

Sean Payton Head Coach Extraordinaire

Boy do I love Coach Payton.  No sooner have the Saints won the Super Bowl than the gutsy play caller is already planning for 2010.  I remember on Super Bowl night, about 10 minutes after we had seen the coach lifting the trophy, thinking (in my inebriated state) 'I love this feeling and I'm sure Payton is hungry for more'.  Well no doubt given his comments on NOLA.com from the 27th Feb.

"I think the key is to not lose sight of the journey it takes to get there (the Super Bowl), how much work it takes to get in that game," Sean Payton said. "And in every aspect of the program, from the evaluation of talent, the decisions in regard to your roster, the decisions in regard to what we're doing as coaches and evaluators, you know, all those things, it's easy to be critical when you don't have success. What's more challenging is to be that same objective voice of reason, or have that same objective evaluation process, when you do have success."

Now that is a born winner.  To win once is great but to be considered legends in your own time you need to win it again and again and with the team we've got at the average age they are I think that is a real possibility.  A Saints Dynasty, now that really would be something.

Speaking of which he also said Mr Soap Opera himself, Reggie Bush, is definitely in his plans and coming back.  Now I've made clear all along that I'm a big fan of Reggie's.  He is a game changer at his best and at his worst he is a major distraction for the opposing D as someone needs to be tracking his every move.  That leaves room for other players to get open so it's a great early statement of intent by coach Sean Payton to say he is definitely on his way back.

I also like the news they've made tender offers to Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas.  Both were integral in getting the Saints to the Super Bowl with their combination of inside power running, outside and screen play.  To keep this group of runners togethers would be a real coup and send a message to the rest of the league that we really mean business.

Coach Payton also rates Lynell Hamilton very highly so we could also see more from him this coming season.  It's little wonder therefore that the gutsy Saints head coach is willing to forgo the opportunity to sign LaDainian Tomlinson.  As great a player as he has been Tomlinson definitely looks to be in the twilight of his career and would most likely force out one of the younger bucks from the Saints roster.  Better me thinks to invest in the youth and leave some of that money free to get my main man Scott Fujita signed up for one more year.

Finally, whilst I'm glad to hear he's already busy planning for next year I am hoping Sean Payton Head Coach Extraordinaire takes some time to recharge the batteries.  He more than deserves it and will need all the energy he can get come the big time play calls he will no doubt make again in next years Super Bowl.

Saints Injury News for Super Bowl Sunday

The Saints injury report makes great reading ahead of Super Bowl Sunday with only reserve running back Lynell Hamilton reported as questionable. Even Saints talisman Jeremy Shockey was running full routes throughout Friday's final practise session leaving Saints fans and coaching staff with all round smiles heading into the big game.

In contrast the Colts continue to have question marks about the playing ability of pass rush king Dwight Freeney. So whilst trying not to get ahead of ourselves I think that can be chalked up as Saints 1 Colts 0 ahead of the big kick off. Now if only we could somehow slip a couple of laxatives into Peyton Manning's coffee tomorrow morning I think we're all set for a slightly more comfortable game.

Here's the complete Saints Injury News ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.  Don't worry, I think they'd report someone as having a slightly grazed knuckle right now but every Saints player is all set to go for Sunday with the possible exception of Lynell Hamilton:

Lynell Hamilton Saints RB: Ankle injury, game status questionable. He did not participate in practice this week.

Randall Gay Saints CB: Illness, game status probable. He did not participate in practice this week.

Saints NFC Championship Game

The Saints demolished the Cardinals on Saturday night en route to only their second NFC Championship of all time... And I can barely remember a thing about it!  I know I was off my seat more times than a man with piles on an ice cold wooden bench but for the life of me I can't piece it altogether because I quite simply lost all control of my actions and drank like a fish for I was so ecstatic.  I'll make it up to my liver in the week but for now I just want to enjoy this moment ahead of the Saints NFC Championship game against the Vikings.

What I believe happened is that the Saints played the game of their lives to demolish the Cardinals and stick two fingers up to all those doubters out there.  I remember Jeremy Shockey limping his way to a touchdown being the warrior he is, Lynell Hamilton driving for a short yardage thouchdown, Sharper either taking a pick or a fumble recovery and more importanly the D playing an absolute stunner at times and getting to Kurt Warner more than even my optimistic part of the brain would have predicted.

I loved also Reggie Bush running to an incredible touchdown and returning a punt to the house to shut up all those doubters who always go on about the number of downs he plays.  Who cares?  He's a luxury player who we can afford to use as we choose given the other options on the team.  When he is called upon he is ready to deliver at any given moment and thanks to some inspired moves he managed to do it when it counted most.  Let's look forward to more of the same next week

I am going to watch the game back tonight and enjoy it all over again without the faintest idea of how it all pieced together.  And I am going to watch it with a big smile on my face because the Saints are entering the NFC Championship Game on Sunday with the best team in our history and with every chance of going all the way.  I cannot wait!

Saints Vs Panthers 4th Quarter

Welcome to the who cares bowl.  The Panthers lead the Saints here in the 4th Quarter 23 to 10 although with most of the Saints 2nd stringers on display is it any wonder.  At least some of these guys are showing a passion for the tackle on the D.

Highlight of the 4th Quarter comes as Jonathan Casillas jacks up the Panthers return man after the Saints fail to do much on O and punt away.  Great hit by the rookie.

Julius Peppers makes a great interception grab as Mark Brunell went to throw a screen pass after a long Saints drive down to the Panthers 20.  A shame as the drive was again a nice mix of Mike Bell and Lynell Hamilton runs and short grabs out of the back field.

And that's about it as the Panthers end up with the win 23 to 10 and the Saints finish the season 13 and 3 after a 13 and 0 start.  Whilst you can discount today's game from any real record those previous 2 losses sure loom large in the brain ahead of the playoffs so the boys in black and gold face 2 weeks of prep, game film and hard drilling to turn their end of season form around.

Can they do it?  Course they can.  They are the New Orleans Saints and I love em.  This is still our year!

Tampa Bay Bucs Vs Saints 3rd Quarter

Welcome back to the second half in the Saints Bucs game live from the Super Dome.  I'm hoping you're suitably fed and refreshed in order to enjoy more of the festive cheer as the Saints look to extend their 17 to 3 lead and secure that home field advantage through the playoffs.

1st down Saints at their 24.
Mike Bell takes the hand off and batters through for 3.  2nd and 7.
Drew Brees aims for Marques Colston over the middle but good coverage forces it out of Colstons hands.  3rd and 7.
Brees unloads as he is hit but finds Marques Colston for a pick up of 13.  Great throw there.

1st down Saints at their 40.
Brees over the middle to Reggie Bush for a pick up of 7.  2nd and 3.
Lynell Hamilton is stopped for a loss of 2.  3rd and 5.
Brees is sacked a the Bucs linebacker comes clean through the middle.  4th and 13.  A bit of a reminder of the Cowboys game there.

1st down Bucs at their own 30.
Williams bounces out wide for a big gain of 15.

1st down Bucs.
Freeman to Bryant down the sidelines for 22.  Good throw and catch over Tracy Porter.

1st down Bucs at the Saints 33.
Cadillac Williams bursts through for another 6.  2nd and 4.  We've taken our foot off thr gas here.
Freeman to Bryant out wide right for a gain of 3.  3rd and 1.
Williams runs right, breaks the first point of contact and then picks up 5.

1st down Bucs at the Saints 19.
Freeman to Graham on the sidelines for a gain of 7.  2nd and 3.
Freeman to Bryant in the end zone and...  Tracy Porter intercepts!!  Great play on the ball by Porter and just at the right time.  We'd let the Bucs back into the game there but Porter snuffed it out and wins my presitgious 'Player of the last play' award.

1st down Saints at their own 20.

Mike Bell up the middle for 1.  2nd and 9.
Brees throws incomplete but a penalty marker is out for pass interference to move the chains.  That was blatant interference by the dirty Buc.

1st down Saints.
Brees to Lynell Hamilton over the middle who runs 4 after the catch for another 1st.

1st down Saints.
Brees to David Thomas out wide right for a pick up of 9.  2nd and 1.
Hamilton up the middle for what could be a first... they're going to measure and it's about 2 inches short.  3rd and inches.
Lynell Hamilton over right tackle and he turns the corner and takes it 19 yards.

1st down Saints at the Bucs 37.
Hamilton again but this time is cut down for a loss of 2.  2nd and 12.
Brees to Robert Meachem for 2.  3rd and 10.
Brees to Reggie Bush on the screen but it fools no one and he's dropped for a big loss.  4th and 20 so the Saints will punt again.  Courtney Roby downs it at the 2 to set up a big long field for Freeman.  Nice play by Mr Special Teams.

1st down Bucs.
Williams with the hand off and Darren Sharper stops him for a loss of 1.  2nd and 11.
Freeman to Graham who picks up 10.  3rd and 1.
Freeman to Clark over the middle for a gain of 15.

1st down Bucs.
Freeman under pressure is unable to find his man.  2nd and 10.
Williams between left tackle and guard for a few to end the 3rd Quarter.

NO Jerseys Vs Bucs 4th Quarter

We open the 4th Quarter with the Saints dominating this game and Josh Freeman looking like a guy with amnesia who doesn't know he's a Quarterback. The Saints lead 31 to 7 and have possession at the Bucs 41.

Bell up the middle picks up 6.  2nd and 4.

Brees overthrows Darnell Dinkins to bring up 3rd and 4.

Next play Pierre Thomas takes the ball 7 yards for a 1st down to the Bucs 27.  Nice work Tommy boy.

Pierre Thomas Jersey
The Pierre Thomas Jersey Getting it Done

Mike Bell hammers his way for 2 more.  2nd and 8.

Mike Bell this time hops around for a while before deciding to pick a hole and gains a massive 1 yard more.  3rd and 7.

Draw play Pierre Thomas and after spinning, twisting and dancing he takes it 19 yards to the Bucs 7.  Great run by Thomas.  That's 92 off 11 carries today for the Saints ace number 23.  I think I'm going to ask for a Pierre Thomas jersey for Xmas... but then I've asked for a Mike Bell jersey already... and a Darren Sharper jersey... and a... basically I want them all, OK?

1st down and goal.

Mike Bell drives up the middle for 2.  2nd and goal at the 4.

Mike Bell battles his way for 3 and a half yards.  3rd and goal.

Mike Bell dives over the pile and... TOUCHDOWN!!  And the 2 Bucs fans still in the stadium are booing bless their little crying hearts.  Great effort again there by the Saints RB's and linemen on that drive.  Talk about a perfectly balanced offence who can dominate through the air or ground on consecutive drives.

Mike Bell Jersey
Is it a Bird?  A Plane?  No it's SuperBell

Saints 38 Bucs 7.  So that's 38 unanswered points?  Most excellent.

1st down Bucs at their own 20.

Freeman to someone for 6.

Derrick Ward pounds out a load up the middle for a 1st down at the 35.

Freeman looks deep to someone who wasn't there but Usama Young is called for doing something bad (pass interference).  Bucs ball at the Saints 45.

Freeman to Bryant who gets hammered after a pick up of 6.

Freeman to Winslow for 4 and a 1st at the Saints 35.

Freeman decides it's time to throw to a Saints player again but this time Chris Reis decides we've had enough interceptions for the day and drops the ball.  2nd and 10.

Freeman looks for a Buc this time and completes to Ward for 4.  3rd and 6.

Freeman to Ward again for a couple so we're looking at 4th and 2.

Freeman drops back and throws to a camera man with a long zoom lens on the sidelines.  I'm assuming he didn't want his picture taken so was trying to take the cameraman out... it's literally the only thing I can think of given that a guy paid millions of dollars threw a ball so beyond any team mate on 4th and 2.  Those 2 Bucs fans left in the Disney World stadium look bemused.

1st down Saints at their own 27 with 6.47 on the clock.

Mark Brunell checks into the game as Drew Brees hits the showers early to clip his toe nails as he's taking Mrs Brees out for a steak dinner tonight.

We're quickly to 3rd and 3.

Future Saints Hall of Famer Lynell Hamilton takes it 2 yards to bring up 4th and 1 and Sean Payton is going for it... and gets it, no sweat.  Hamilton ran hard.

Hamilton again for 5.  Next up Hamilton slips on that banana skin from the 1st Quarter and only picks up 1.  3rd and 4.

Hamilton picks up a couple more to bring up 4th and 2.  Hamilton gets the call again and he's stuffed for a loss so the Saints give up the ball on downs and I give up writing about it as there's only 2 mins left and this one is in the bag.

No sooner do I write that than Freeman bombs the ball straight to Chris Reis who adds another pick to the Saints tally and takes the team total to 20.  We now lead the NFL in takeaways and wrap up the game with a nice pretty red bow.

So can I first thank Josh Freeman for being such an obliging host today.  It's rare you encounter an opponent who is so willing you to win on their home turf.  Secondly start to whisper it and then get louder and louder:
