Drew Brees Talked Sproles Into Signing

Check out this interview with Drew from training camp. By the sounds of it he had a big hand in turning the head and focus of Darren Sproles the Saints way.

If true this tells us that Sproles came here to win rather than just chase money from other potential suitors. I like that. I like that a lot.

With players of that calibre now attracted to the Saints on the basis of wanting to end their careers with titles that can only be a good thing. Hopefully we'll bag a few more such players and may even convince a few more of our free agents to turn down bigger deals elsewhere on the basis that this is a winning team and there are only so many 0's on a pay check that can compensate you for a Super Bowl ring.

Call me naive but if I was playing that's what I'd be thinking. Sure earn some good money for playing the game you love but retire with the title cause then the future takes care of itself!

Who Dat.

Saints Sign Darren Sproles!!

Oh my lordy lord I never really expected that! I thought he was totally out of our pay bracket. This is unbelievable news.

To lose the talents of Reggie was sad but understanable given the cap restraints but to then replace him with a guy who gives you a 'comparable skill set' as coach Payton stated is a huge statement of intent. It means we have a premier kick and punt returner, 3rd down back and somehow who can create those misalignments that Payton so loves.

Here's some of the talent we can expect.

This is great, great news. With a backfield consisting of Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram, Chris Ivory and Darren Sproles I think you would be hard pushed to find a better unit in the league! It's a complete set.

You've got your hard running between the tackles, short yardage options. Some great outside break away options, backfield blocking as well as a set of versatile receivers out of the backfield.

To have that on the field next to Brees, one of the best O lines going and a talented set of receivers (well if a couple can up their hand consistency) you've got to think this is the most complete O unit in the league.

Moore, Bushrod and Sproles in the space of 24 hours = awesome.

Sad to see Randall Gay, Reggie and Remi Ayodele heading out as all have given great survice. I hope they go on to good things.

Still concerned about that soft underbelly on D but I'm sure Payton and Co. have it in hand. The next 48 hours could be revealing.

Breakdown of the Saints Undrafted Free Agent 2011 Class

Great article over on Nola about the 20 undrafted free agents linking up with the Saints. Given Coach Paytons ability to find some diamonds in the rough this list makes for interesting reading.

http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2011/07/new_orleans_saints_undrafted_f.html

On a separate but ridiculously brilliant note I am beyond happy that the Saints signed up Lance Moore for another 5 years. Not only is he a selfless team player but he's one of the most underrated receivers in the league, a reliable clutch go to guy for Brees and an all round contributer to the team ethic.

Less happy but not surprised that luxury of luxuries Reggie Bush is off to the Dolphins. I was always a fan of Reggies but even I can't ignore the production output when set against the cost of his contract.

It's the least surprising deal of the summer in many ways but good luck to him. With Mark Ingram in town along with Pierre 'Quality' Thomas and Chris 'Going Places' Ivory I have no worries that we'll cope.

Still we'll miss some of these moments.

Slightly more concerned about the site of Remi Ayodele packing his bags to the Vikings. He's a decent fill in the front 7 so I hope the back office know what they're doing on this one. Obviously we can't keep everyone but I'm still concerned about that under belly of our D.

Eyes to Twitter folks as no doubt more every minute!

Saints Sign Running Back C.J. Gable

Now that the owners/players dispute is over we can get back to concentrating on football and what a season we potentially have in store. Not only do the Saints have one of the best rosters on paper in team history but we're also nabbing some decent free agants.

Step forward running back C.J. Gable who was signed yesterday. Here’s short preview of his career to date in the NFL.

Remember The First Saints Game Post Katrina?

This video was posted up on YouTube just the other day and gave me pause for thought as the Saints went into Carolina and nailed a hard fought victory on a very emotional day for the teams and fans.

The funny thing about the video is the audio is way out of sync with the video so you get to hear what is coming a good 10 seconds before you see it.

Mark Ingram Set Up Foundation For Kids

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram is making solid use of his reputation by starting a foundation aiming to help children.

Also worth checking out this NFL Network debate regarding who is really the best quarterback out there. Still feel I'd go with Drew Brees everytime. I know I'm biased but the guy remains my all time hero and the guy I'd back every single time!
