The Saints injury report makes great reading ahead of Super Bowl Sunday with only reserve running back Lynell Hamilton reported as questionable. Even Saints talisman Jeremy Shockey was running full routes throughout Friday's final practise session leaving Saints fans and coaching staff with all round smiles heading into the big game.
In contrast the Colts continue to have question marks about the playing ability of pass rush king Dwight Freeney. So whilst trying not to get ahead of ourselves I think that can be chalked up as Saints 1 Colts 0 ahead of the big kick off. Now if only we could somehow slip a couple of laxatives into Peyton Manning's coffee tomorrow morning I think we're all set for a slightly more comfortable game.

Saints Championship Game Injury News
It's almost NFC Championship Game time people and the Saints have some concerns about some key personel with Jeremy Shockey chief amongst them. The big man has been struggling with the knee injury which so clearly troubled him during the Divisional Playoff victory against the Cardinals last Saturday. His status is officially rated as questionable. The loss of the big man will be a big blow given the strength of the Vikings front four as well as the fact he is something of a Saints talisman. Let's hope we over come.

Robert Meachem Saints MVP Vs Redskins
Now that my heart is back in its rightful place and not beating faster than a Humming bird flaps its wings its time to name this weeks Saints MVP.
The competition is a little thin on the ground following an abject performance in some areas of the field (cups hand to your ear and whispers Defense) but there were two contenders who stood out and one of them won it last week so it can't go to him for ethical reasons...
So without further ado I hereby give it to the Saints number 17 ace in the pack himself R. Meachem... for two game changing moments in the tighter than newly washed underpants game that was the Saints Vs Redskins.
Robert Meachem Saints MVP - To witness the Saints struggling to get back in the game before half time was hard enough. To then watch Drew Brees throw a pick under pressure made it worse still. But to suddenly realise that the Saints team were following Robert Meachem down the sidelines was something beyond unexpected.
My brain took a few seconds to process what was going on and before I could say 'Er, like what's going on' the Saints were dancing in the end zone and the World seemed that bit brighter for a good few minutes thanks to Mr Never Quit himself, Robert 'You Beautiful SOB' Meachem.
Talk about hustle play. The guy had no right to make that happen and yet he did and it helped keep the Saints in with a fighting chance for the second half. Without Meachems intervention the Redskins could very well have got a few more points on the board and made things that extra touch more difficult than they already were... Which is to say very difficult indeed.
To add excitement to ecstasy he then elected to throw the double fake of his life on his way to the post on the 52 yard game tying touchdown with just 1.27 on the clock. Talk about hero making. Cometh the hour, cometh the Meachem. He ended the day with 142 yards off 8 receptions and 2 touchdowns... and my undying debt.
Honourable mentions to...
Drew Brees Saints Legend - Not quite at his pinnacle best of the Patriots game (but then how do you better perfection) yet still a more than decent game by the Don of the Saints O. What I love about the guy is you always have faith that he will either find a way to pull it out the bag or die trying. And he certainly never gave up on his way to 419 passing yards off an incredible 49 attempts (that tells you the story of how effective the running game was) and 2 TDs.
Garrett Hartley Saints Kicker - How can you not pay thanks to the man who kept his cool in overtime to seal an incredible come back victory? Yes it was only 18 yards away, yes my Granny could have kicked it but still it takes some guts to step up having watched one of your kicking brethren looking desperately for a hole to hide in having shanked his game ending field goal down the other end not long before.
Never the Worlds safest or appreciated profession but I for one thank you Mr Hartley for letting my heart beat normally again after, oh I don't know, 3 hours of nerve shredding tension.
Darren Sharper Saints Safety - Now some may wonder how a Saints Defender gets in the list this week after some of the worst tackling since I last chased a chicken round a coop but I tell you if it wasn't for number 42 the game would have been over long before.
Cast your mind back to the start of the 4th Quarter and the Redskins are driving deep in Saints territory. Their running backs are breaking point of contact hits and getting 4/5/6 yards every carry and the goal line is beckoning. Up steps Darren Sharper on 3rd and 1 to cut down Mason in the back field to stop a key conversion. The Redskins duly kicked a field goal instead of putting an extra 4 on the board.
For that play alone Sharpy McSharp Sharp makes it onto this weeks winners board (although the less said about him tackling Mike McKenzie just as Old McKee boy was about to stop a touchdown by the Redskins Thomas the better).
Please, please, please will the Gods of injury smile on our stricken Defense and get some more starters back in time for the playoffs. I'll eat my greens for a whole month or something.

Saints Vs Rams 2nd Quarter Analysis
You join me in the Saints Vs Rams 2nd Quarter having just been advised that I'm watching FOX NFL Sunday by a baritone voice. That's lucky they confirmed that or I would have been left thinking I was watching the sound of music in Slavic. Now a fan holds up a sign confirming we are watching Fox as we return to the game; did the PR department pay him for that?
OK so the score is Saints 0 Rams 0.
Drew Brees throws to David Thomas who is stopped short and then forces his way for an extra 3. GREAT effort. 4th catch of day by the backup Tight End. Only 7 catches before today, how bout that?
1st down Black and Gold.
Draw to Bush who does his Michael Jordan leap and gets a... 3 yard TOUCHDOWN!! His 5th of the season.
That was a 13 play, 78 yard drive in 7.30. Brees went 6 for 6 for 58 yards. Textbook drive - Very impressive. Brees spread the ball around to receivers and tight ends and was complimented by some good runs by the backs. There were also 3 straight 3rd down conversions on the drive which is akey indicator of ruthless efficiency.

Anthony Hargrove Saints Player of the Week
This week’s win against the Carolina Panthers once again underlined the depth of the Saints roster and the total team effort it takes to win games this deep into the season. So without further ado please step forward Mr Underdog, Saint of the Week himself Anthony Hargrove:
Anthony Hargrove Saints Defensive Tackle - Hargrove was required to fill the big shoes of much missed and injured Sedrick Ellis, and he did this with some aplomb. After finding himself, and the rest of the run defence, culpable for an early 66 yard touchdown run by DeAngelo Williams, Hargrove set about solidifying the Saints soft under belly to keep the score competitive. He was able to fill the middle channels forcing Williams and Stewart into congestion and slowing down the Panthers progress. Yes he got penalised for a stupid penalty early on but he learnt from it and applied himself diligently to the team cause. This high work rate was later rewarded with a forced fumble recovery for a touchdown late in the 4th to see out the Saints win.
Without such a telling contribution from the Saints number 69 the game could have gotten away from us and Saints fans would now be saying prayers to the Gods of injury to get Sedrick Ellis back and healthy soon. As it stands we've found a willing and hard working down veteran lineman in Anthony Hargrove, a valuable addition to the roster. We'll still pray for Sedrick Ellis as we love the big man but at least Hargrove has proven he can fill the big mans shoes.
And the Runners Up are:
Robert Meachem Wide Receiver - With Marques Colston dropping his fair share of passes it was left to number 17 to spare the Saints receiving corps blushes with a stellar performance. His 54 yard touchdown catch and run to close out the 3rd Quarter and level the scores was a key moment in the game. He finished with 5 receptions for 98 yards and 1 TD. He was only narrowly shaded out by Anthony Hargrove for the Saint of the Week award and should feel himself hard done by - hey what can I say? I love the under under dog!

Not once did I see or hear anything of the pass rushing All Pro beyond his introduction at the start of the game. For a lineman to so totally shut down such a great player is work indeed and Bushrod deserves huge helpings of praise for his efforts.
Will Smith Defensive End - Again the Hollywood moonlighting defensive end brought the outside pressure to register two important sacks and further reclaim his Saints sack king crown. I for one am glad to see the big man dominating opposing linemen. His sack in the 2nd Quarter was a highlight as he walked through the Panther tackle to jump all over Jake Delhomme.
Pierre Thomas Saints Running Back - When finally given more playing time in the 4th Quarter he made some great runs to get the Saints offence going. With the Saints backed up close to their own end zone Thomas took a pass out in the flat, broke a tackle just shy of the 1st down marker and tacked on a further 6 yards. It was a heck of a second effort and indicative of the running power Thomas brings to this offence. He finished with 13 for 50 and 1 TD rushing and a further 5 for 31 receiving.
Reggie Bush Saints Running Back - Nothing flashy here but a solid performance none the less. With Jeremy Shockey taken away as a short yardage receiver Brees looked more and more to Bush in the flat and Reggie did not let him down. He picked up some useful first downs and ended up with 7 for 37 receiving and 2 for 16 on the ground.

Will Smith Defensive End - Again the Hollywood moonlighting defensive end brought the outside pressure to register two important sacks and further reclaim his Saints sack king crown. I for one am glad to see the big man dominating opposing linemen. His sack in the 2nd Quarter was a highlight as he walked through the Panther tackle to jump all over Jake Delhomme.
Pierre Thomas Saints Running Back - When finally given more playing time in the 4th Quarter he made some great runs to get the Saints offence going. With the Saints backed up close to their own end zone Thomas took a pass out in the flat, broke a tackle just shy of the 1st down marker and tacked on a further 6 yards. It was a heck of a second effort and indicative of the running power Thomas brings to this offence. He finished with 13 for 50 and 1 TD rushing and a further 5 for 31 receiving.
Reggie Bush Saints Running Back - Nothing flashy here but a solid performance none the less. With Jeremy Shockey taken away as a short yardage receiver Brees looked more and more to Bush in the flat and Reggie did not let him down. He picked up some useful first downs and ended up with 7 for 37 receiving and 2 for 16 on the ground.

My Fantasy Team
Hi All,
This week I scored a so so 96 points. That puts me in position 2,192 overall for the week in a league of 15,000+ members so not too bad going. The area of the team that is letting me down is out wide with both receivers and tight end pulling in a combined 13 points. I went with Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem of the Saints as I figured the amount Bree's chucks the ball around these two have to catch their fair share with Henderson the deep specialist and Meachem over the middle. Well so far not quite so good but I'll hang in there for another week or two. After that I might consider trading for Mario Manningham at the Giants or Legedu Naanee of the Chargers as both come at the same value and both are racking up the points.
Anybody go along with that? If not who would you trade for?
