Drew Brees Saints Who Dat Chant for 2010 season

Drew Brees today announced the new Saints chant for the 2010 season...  It's the famous Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat say dey gonna beat 'dem Saints!!

The plan is for the Saints honorary captian of the day to follow the coin toss by walking out onto the field, raising his fist and then dropping it to start the whole Dome chanting in unison to the famous Saints song.  That is going to be one hell of a way to unite the whole Who Dat Nation and intimidate the opposition with a wall of noise... bring it on Saints!

Drew Brees Chant 2010 - Who Dat Press Conference

Brees said in the press conference "We as a team wanted to find a way to kind of engage our fans prior to the start of the game with some kind of interaction where we just get the Dome excited, electric.  We've got the best fans in the world.  We've got the loudest fans in the world.  Let's do something like this so that every opponent that comes in our stadium knows what's in store, and it just kind of sets the tone."

The Drew Brees 2010 pregame chant will now be a united Who Dat Nation chant.  Brees is set to kick it off in the game against the Vikings and in subsequent weeks the captaincy will rotate.  I for one cannot wait.

So the Saints 2010 chant will go (like you need to have the words confirmed but anyway):

Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat say dey gonna beat 'dem Saints,
Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat say dey gonna beat 'dem Saints,
Who Dat, Who Dat, Who Dat say dey gonna beat 'dem Saints
(Followed by mass hysteria cheering!!!!)

Bring it on New Orleans Saints Nation.  Last years Drew Brees chant was sensational, this years is going to take it to a whole other level with the full chorus of some 70,000 behind them.  Two Dat indeed!

Drew Brees Highlights Reel

The Drew Brees highlights reel grows larger every week thanks to his 2009 MVP season to remember. So I thought I'd post up some Drew Brees videos so we can all enjoy Captain Marvel himself in action.

Drew Brees Highlights Reel

Below are a couple of videos from the 2008 season in which Brees threw for that astounding total of 5,069 yards, just 15 short of Dan Marinos single season record and only the second Quarterback ever to go past the 5,000 mark in a single season.  I just wish he'd been able to find Devery Henderson open one more time as he would have been guaranteed the record given Hendersons average.

Drew Brees Saints MVP Vs. Patriots

The Saints team put in a performance to remember against the Patriots on Monday night.  They dominated New England on so many levels that I ended up wondering why I had been so tense during the Saints pre game chant.

As a result there are MVP candidates throughout the roster.  However there was one man who raised his game to such a plateau that it's hard to think of anything more he could have done.  I am of course talking about the Saintsational Drew Brees my MVP for Week 11.

Drew Brees Saints MVP - Words fail me when it comes to describing our Quarterback and leader.  He played out of his skin from the get go completing down the left sidelines to Devery Henderson and never let up thereafter.

All Hail Drew Brees

He inspired his team pre kick off with the now famous Drew Brees chant and then proceeded to maul the Pats secondary into submission.  His passing was accurate beyond belief, he read the Pats D making adjustments on the fly and he had the mastering of everything Bill Belichick could throw at him.

Some of his connections to the back shoulders of his receivers were simply the work of genius and it must have totally demoralised the Pats at times because the coverage was often pretty good.  He simply had the tenacity and ability to exploit any small hole and so proved to the nation what an incredible Quarterback he is.

Mr Drew Bees take a bow before the Who Dat Nation because you have once again displayed that you are a genius and a Saints legend in the making.  The numbers don't lie and to end the day 18 of 23 for 371 yards and 5, repeat that, 5 Touchdowns against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football is some feat!  Incredible.

Honourable mention must go to...

Just about everybody else on the roster!  From the offensive line to the coaching staff, from the backup secondary personal to the return team, everyone showed up with their A game and deserve all the plaudits they get.

Fronting the cue for special mention however must be the returning hero Mike McKenzie.  To be out for so long and then be thrust into the action against the likes of Welker, Moss and Aitken is hard enough but to have the beating of them?  Well that takes a special kind of competitor and a special kind of heart and I hereby salute you my man.  You kept the jam in the doughnut, the burger in the bun and the beer in the bottle so to speak.  The shootout was kept for one team only thanks to some veteran reading of the game and a classic break on a Brady ball for a decisive interception.

Before I go just one final shout out... to you, the Who Dat Nation.  Those of you in the Super Dome on Monday played your part with non stop ear splitting sound.  I love the fact we have the best fans in the World and just hope we secure home field advantage all the way through the post season because then we can continue to play our part in supporting the team in the only way we can.  Big love.

Drew Brees Who Are We Chant

We Are New Orleans!  The Drew Brees chant to success.

Drew Brees certainly has a way with words.  The 'Who Are We' chant is now infamous around the NFL for its intensity and passion.  It is the rallying call around which the team flocks pre-game and is now synonymous with the Saints winning formula.

So what makes it so special and just what exactly is Drew Brees chanting?

Drew Brees Who Are We chant

Reading through a number of Saints forums it is clear there is a lot of conjecture firstly about what he is actually saying and, equally, the importance of the chant in setting the tone for the teams display.

What is being said in the Drew Brees Who Are We chant?

On the Yahoo answers board one post positively claims it is:

One two win, for you,
Three, four, win, some more,
Five, six, win again,
7, 8, win again,
9, 10, win again, win again, win again...

Over at TiggerDroppings.com the Drew Brees chant words are said to be:

Brees: 1 Players: 2
Brees: Win, Players: For You
Brees: 3 Players: 4
Brees: Win, Players: Some More
Brees: 5 Players: 6
Brees: Win, Players: Again
Brees: 7 Players: 8
Brees: Win, Players: Great
Brees: 9 Players: 10
Brees: Win, Players: Again
All: Again, Again, Again, Again!

Elsewhere there are further conflicting suggestions. Whichever is the correct answer (and you can make your mind up by watching the above video) it is clear it has the desired effect of motivating the team before kick off.  The fact that the Saints Quarterback is the man in the middle of that huddle tells you a great deal about Brees' leadership qualities and his work ethic.

New Orleans Saints Chant Drew Brees Name With Pride

Not for him the stand offish Quarterback pose adopted by the likes of Jeff George or the egotistical wittering of the deluded (Michael Vick - “The next year will be about being the face of the NFL for the next 10 years").  Instead Brees leads the team by example with his season long preparation work, film study and practise.  His pre match rallying call and his skilful command of the team on the field are the culmination of months of work and dedication at the Saints practise facilities.

The Drew Brees chant of champions

Now that may all sound like some awfully sycophantic babble and for that I apologise.  But I for one am happy to applaud any player in this age who so clearly wears his heart on his sleeve and is prepared to work year round to deliver success to the great city of New Orleans.  When peoples homes are being foreclosed, when jobs are being shed and when every day folk are struggling to make ends meet it comes as some relief to at least be able to follow a team made up of undrafted rejects and free agents and all led by a man of great quality and humility.  I salute you Drew Brees and Who We Are... New Orleans!!
